Evaluation of my EBook:
Content:
The content of my EBook is pretty good, as it covers the criteria in depth, answering all the questions that the criteria gave. There are examples included too, (under the email page under online services) where there is a list of different types of emails, etc. Videos are also included and relate to the content of the page. There are a number of print screen pictures that are too shown as an example to the work. There are also pictures included of articles that relate to the topic. This is used to make the website look more colourful and nicer to read. At the end of the EBook, flash is used to make it look more appealing to the reader. Use of colour is evident, as the background and text is used in a nice colour.
However, improvements could be made, such as adding more flash rather than just the one.
Structure:
The EBook is easy to navigate, as under every page, there is a previous and next button to make it easier for the reader to shift through pages. The reader can access a page quicker by clicking on the tabs at the top of the webpage for a specific topic. Also, when you click on the title of the EBook (The Information Age) it takes you straight to the homepage making it easier and faster to access. The use of media throughout the EBook makes the website look more pleasing, as the reader can relate to them whilst reading the content itself; it makes reading more interesting too.
Also, different topics within a page are clearly underlined and points are separated through bullet points, making it easier to read. This is further enforced with Sabah’s point, that everything is well organised, making it easier to read as everything is separated and important headings are underlined.
Screen layout:
The position of text is clear on the screen, as it is on the page and clear to see and read.
However, there were a few problems I had faced when placing the media onto the screen. I couldn’t move the media to the specific place I had actually wanted, as I wanted the images to go under the specific text as it relates to that. However, when dragging the icon to add an image, it didn’t go to the specified place and kept moving to the top. To sort this problem, I split the text so there was two columns and added the image at the top.
Another problem I had faced was getting the font to be the same throughout. Whilst pasting it, some font was different to the rest, and also the size of it too. To overcome this, I had to paste the text bit by bit. The bullet points were also a problem, as some of the sizes were different to the rest and I had to delete them and add them on again.
Making links to the previous and next button was problematic too, as I kept getting mixed up with what page I had to link it too, and I had to start again so that it was right and consistent throughout.
Use of multimedia components:
There are quite a lot of print screens and pictures in this website – all related to the text. I managed to find videos off YouTube that also related to the content; such as ‘The history of technology’. Converting these videos were hard, as it took time and I had to try different methods to try and add it on my website.
A major problem I had was trying to convert the videos I had made myself into SWF files. The websites all couldn’t convert this, and I had tried many ways and methods.
Also, Weebly didn’t allow me to add videos with a certain gigabyte, so I had to download the video again but with a lower quality. I had to do this for two of my videos, then again, convert them to SWF’s.
Another factor I did to make my website look more interesting, was that I added a moving flash of my name, and this makes it look fun to read, which is further enforced with what Sahdia and Saiqa said; that the use of multimedia components, including the flash at the end was good.
Presentation techniques:
The presentation of this overall website is pretty good, as everything is clear to read and everything is well separated.
However, one improvement could be the pictures being in-line with the text and not having to make a new column for this to happen.
Also, the fact that I had to do limited scrolling, meant that I had to add a number of more sub-pages and label them ‘continued’. The problem is, you can’t hide these pages, and so they are evident under the tabs.
The only problem with the presentation is the quality of the videos – they had to be lowered because the website I was building it on didn’t allow me to do it otherwise.
Ease of navigation:
As I have previously mentioned before the ease of navigation of the EBook is easy and precise, as everything is well-ordered. Also, the previous and next buttons are in-line with each other which makes it look neat, but also easier for your mouse to move from one to the other too.
This is further approved by Maria, who also mentions how it organised well, which is why it is easy to navigate.
Consistency:
There is consistency throughout the EBook, as all topics are underlined, all points are separated with bullet points, and it is the same through all the pages.
Conversely, there is one problem with the consistency of the media placed on the webpage, ad where it’s set out on the page. For example, some pages have the media at the top and some at the bottom. This was because I couldn’t get it to specifically go under the text I had wanted it to.
Accessibility:
I think all pages are easy to access and are visible throughout the whole EBook. You can easily read through it all by using the previous and next buttons. However, if you want to click on a specific page, you can do this by hovering over the tabs.

Maria The website is organised well, and it is easy to use.
Sahdia The flash at the end of the website is great and the use of pictures is good too. Saiqa I like the videos very much. Overall, a good website. Saima The website is good, and nice to read. However, I do feel that the use of media is more towards the end of the website and little at the beginning - that could be an improvement. Sabah I like the use of pictures and videos. I also like the fact that each part is separated and the use of bullet points and underlines makes it clear and nicer to read. Really well set out! |
