The global digital divide describes global differences between developed and developing countries. This is in regards to the access of computing and information resources (such as the internet).

As the internet is increasing quickly, not all countries – especially developing countries are able to keep up. Also, computers and the internet provide people with an improved education; this can lead to higher wages. Therefore, people living in areas with limited access are consequently disadvantaged. Obstacles to overcome the global digital divide include: physical access, financial access, socio-demographic access, cognitive access, design access, institutional access, political access and also cultural access.
There are four main arguments to why it is significant to bridge the gap. First, it is the economic equality – for example, people having access to a telephone. If there is an emergency, you definitely need a phone. This is why bridging the gap of the digital divide is important.
